The CO2RE laser is a new technology offered by Dr. Aboutanos at Richmond Plastic Surgeons, which improves the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles, scars, large pores, age spots and acne scars. This fractionated CO2 laser is the next generation in laser resurfacing technology, encouraging the production of collagen and healthy new skin cells. Not only does this laser treat different skin types, it also allows precise control over the depth of treatment to prevent prolonged wound healing and scarring, which may occur with other types of lasers.
CO2RE laser treatment can be done in the office without the need for anesthesia. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure. Generally, there is little discomfort during the treatment process. The total treatment time is about 1-2 hours.
Afterward treatment, a thick layer of a petroleum-based ointment (Aquaphor) is applied to help with healing. Hydration is important to keep the treatment areas from drying and cracking. Sunscreen and avoidance of sun exposure is crucial to prevent scarring and discomfort in the post-treatment period. Swelling and peeling may occur for about 5 - 7 days. CO2RE laser treatment can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures.

Profound Skin Tightening
Profound™ is a new facial treatment that increases elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid, all important components of youthful skin. This treatment delivers radiofrequency energy into the deeper levels of the skin with multiple tiny needles (microneedles), resulting in the improved appearance of nasolabial folds, sagging jowls, marionette lines, lines around the upper and lower lips, and loose skin under the neck. By tightening the skin of the lower face, the cheeks will also look fuller and more youthful.
How long will the procedure take?
Profound is a procedure that is done by Dr. Aboutanos in the office with use of a topical numbing cream and injection of local anesthesia. The procedure can take 60-90 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Where will the incisions be?
There are no incisions! Profound is a cutting-edge anti-aging treatment that can provide facelift-type results without the scars, anesthesia or down-time.
What will recovery be like?
Swelling and bruising will be present for about 1 week. It is important to keep the skin moisturized and to avoid sun exposure during the healing period. Improved skin appearance can be seen as early as 1 month but final results may not be visible until 10-12 months after the procedure. These results last for years as long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained.
If you are interested in looking younger without having surgery and anesthesia, please call Dr. Aboutanos in Richmond, VA at 804-355-3410 to see if you are a candidate for Profound.
Microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy) is an in-office procedure that involves the use of fine needles to make tiny punctures in the skin. These tiny punctures stimulate collagen and elastin, which are important factors for youthful, healthy skin.
What does microneedling do?
Microneedling improves skin blood flow and reduces the appearance of aging and scarring. This treatment can help tighten the skin in the lower lid/upper cheek area and reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles. Improvement in the appearance of acne scarring has also been shown with microneedling. After completing a series of microneedling treatments, your skin will appear brighter and healthier with less areas of irregularity and discoloration.
What can I expect from treatment?
Microneedling is performed under local anesthesia using a topical numbing cream. Typically, three treatments spaced three to four weeks apart will help bring out your skin’s special glow. Each treatment typically takes about 30-45 minutes. There is minimal downtime, and most patients heal within just two days. NeoGraft Hair Restoration
The NeoGraft® automated FUE hair transplant system utilizes the latest hair transplant technology to provide patients with a fuller head of hair without a large linear scar. This minimally invasive procedure provides natural results for both men and women who are suffering from hair loss.
Please contact us today to learn more or schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Aboutanos and our NeoGraft technician.
How does NeoGraft work?
NeoGraft automates the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplantation process. Using the NeoGraft device, we are able to quickly and gently extract individual hair follicles from the back of your head, where hair is naturally fuller and healthier. These individual follicle units are then strategically and meticulously transplanted into thinning areas.
Traditionally, FUE hair transplantation required a surgeon to manually remove hair follicles and prep them for transplantation. By automating the process, NeoGraft helps reduce overall procedure time, provide more consistent results, and improve the take-rate of the transplanted follicles.
Does NeoGraft hurt?
NeoGraft is performed in the office with local anesthesia to ensure your comfort. For most patients, the injection of local anesthesia is the most uncomfortable part of the procedure. You should not feel the actual transplantation process outside of a bit of pressure.
After your procedure, it’s normal for the areas of extraction and implantation to feel tender for a few days, though pain medication should take the edge off so you can be comfortable.
What is recovery after NeoGraft like?
Typically, recovery after NeoGraft is speedier than other hair transplant techniques. For the first few days after your procedure, it’s normal to have some swelling and sensitivity. There will be small scabs that develop around each extraction site and recipient site, which will flake off in around four to five days.
You will need to rest for the first two or three days and avoid strenuous physical activity, such as exercise, for about two weeks. After the first three days, you can return to work and resume non-strenuous activities, like driving.
When will I see results after NeoGraft?
You will begin seeing new hair growth after three to four months, though it can take a year or so for final results to appear. While this seems like a long process, good things come to those who wait—and a fuller head of natural hair growth takes a bit of time.,/p>
