5 Procedures Commonly Combined with Liposuction

Four Happy Healthy Women

Liposuction is ideal for improving body contours, and can be used in a number of areas (both large and small) to sculpt away unwanted fat deposits. However, you may not know that this procedure can be paired with other procedures for optimal results and precision. Below, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sharline Aboutanos explains 5 plastic surgery procedures that are frequently combined with liposuction, and how they create a complementary outcome.

1. Tummy tuck and liposuction

A tummy tuck can be paired with liposuction to fully restore a firm, shapely abdomen. A tummy tuck is primarily focused on repairing stretched abdominal muscles and removing excess skin, and can only remove a limited amount of fat; liposuction enhances and perfects its results by spot-reducing fat in a customized fashion.

2. Facelift and liposuction

A facelift is designed to decidedly reverse signs of facial aging by raising fallen cheeks and removing excess skin. This procedure may include a neck lift, as well, for consistent rejuvenation of the lower face and neck. Adding liposuction to either a facelift or a neck lift gives your surgeon greater ability to achieve a shapely silhouette below the chin and in the neck.

3. Arm lift and liposuction

An arm lift (or brachioplasty) removes excess, drooping skin from the upper arms, and can be especially helpful after significant weight loss or aging have contributed to the appearance of  “bat wings.” For patients with excess fat deposits, combining liposuction with an arm lift allows your surgeon to achieve even more noteworthy results.

4. Thigh lift and liposuction

A thigh lift improves the contour of your thighs (inner and/or outer) by removing excess skin. This procedure is often combined with liposuction to achieve optimal results: by first removing excess fat that “stretches out” the skin, your surgeon is able to remove more excess skin. It also facilitates a smoother contour to your end result.

5. Breast augmentation and liposuction

Breast augmentation enhances the breasts’ size and fullness, transforming your entire figure. To further emphasize your new shape and contribute to the appearance of an hourglass figure, you may choose to add liposuction of the waist and abdomen in the same procedure. Some patients also may desire “mini” liposuction of the small fat deposits at the front of the underarm or along the bra line to complete their look.

When breast augmentation and liposuction are also combined with a tummy tuck, this set of procedures forms the template for a “mommy makeover”—a procedure combination designed to reverse the effects of childbearing, weight loss, and/or aging in the breasts and belly.

What are the benefits of combining plastic surgery procedures?

Patients choose to combine plastic surgery procedures not only to achieve enhanced results, but also for the benefit of a single, consolidated recovery period. You will also save on certain surgical costs by paying for them only once.
