Thread Lift

Thread Lift

Over time, we lose some of the natural volume that gives our face its unique contours. Our skin begins to gradually fall, leading to jowls and prominent wrinkles. If you are not ready for surgery, but your mid-face could still use a “lift,” a minimally-invasive thread lift may be right for you.

What is a thread lift?

During a thread lift, dissolvable, medical-grade threads (no larger than a hair) are inserted beneath the skin to raise and suspend the cheek area in a higher position.

During the procedure, Dr. Aboutanos will mark your injection areas, numb your skin with a local anesthetic, then create small incisions to place the threads. The threads are then carefully inserted and trimmed. Sagging is instantly improved and, over time, the threads prompt collagen production to address volume loss in the skin. The procedure typically takes no more than an hour, and you will be able to drive yourself home.

Am I a good candidate for a thread lift?

Dr. Aboutanos will evaluate your skin during your consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for a thread lift. Generally, our thread lift patients are not yet ready for facelift surgery, but they feel they want an overall rejuvenated appearance that amounts to more than BOTOX® and dermal filler can offer. Many good candidates are roughly middle-aged, but the right age varies: everyone’s skin ages differently based on environmental factors and genetics.

What are the benefits of a thread lift?

A thread lift is an in-office procedure that requires no general anesthesia or medications. We simply use local anesthetic to numb the area.

Your results may include:

  • A more shapely facial structure

  • Improved cheek contour

  • Less noticeable jowls

  • Smoother naso-labial folds (beside the nose and mouth) and marionette lines (extending down from the sides of the mouth)

  • Improved skin firmness and texture over time

We exclusively use Silhouette InstaLift®, an advanced lifting tool that incorporates Micro-Suspension Technology™ for ideal, immediate results. Silhouette InstaLift threads have been FDA-cleared for cosmetic facial procedures since 2015.

What are the side effects of a thread lift?

It is normal to have a small amount of bleeding at the injection site during your procedure. After, common side effects include minor pain, swelling, and bruising, all of which should subside within two weeks. Most patients are comfortable returning to their routine with makeup to conceal any bruising or redness the same day, while others like to take up to 3 days of social downtime. More serious side effects are rare in the hands of an experienced board certified plastic surgeon, and may include the appearance of skin irregularities or visible threads.

Is a thread lift painful?

The treatment area will be completely numb during your thread lift. That said, you may be able to feel a tugging sensation. Some mild pain or soreness is normal after the procedure and may be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.

Recovery and results after your thread lift procedure

After a thread lift, be sure not to massage your face or stretch your skin outside of your normal facial expressions and movements. Otherwise, you can return to your normal routine. You’ll simply need to sleep on your back for the first couple of weeks, with your head slightly elevated to reduce swelling.

Your results will improve for up to 6 months as your body produces collagen and elastin in the treated area. Results can last as long as 18 months to 2 years.
