Improving Neck Contour

Have you seen the recent commercials on TV about improving neck contour with Kybella from Allergen? Kybella is an injectable product that dissolves fat cells, which reduces the fat located under the chin and neck.

This procedure can be done in the office and typically takes about 30 minutes, including prep time. After being evaluated, your neck skin is cleansed and ice is applied as numbing agent before the procedure. A grid is then applied to the area to be injected and the injection time takes about 5-10 minutes.

You may experience numbness and tingling during the procedure and some swelling afterwards. Typically, swelling lasts for about 2-3 days and then it gradually resolves. Depending on your exam and the amount of fat present in the area, one to three treatments with Kybella may be necessary. These treatments are usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart from each other.

The best candidates for Kybella are men (yes, men!) and women with mild to moderate amounts of fat under the chin. Patients with severe amounts of fat or very thin skin in this area may be better served with liposuction of the neck or a neck lift.
