The CO2RE laser is a new technology offered by Dr. Aboutanos at Richmond Plastic Surgeons, which improves the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles, scars, large pores, age spots and acne scars. This fractionated CO2 laser is the next generation in laser resurfacing technology, encouraging the production of collagen and healthy new skin cells. Not only does this laser treat different skin types, it also allows precise control over the depth of treatment to prevent prolonged wound healing and scarring, which may occur with other types of lasers.

CO2RE laser treatment can be done in the office without the need for anesthesia. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure. Generally, there is little discomfort during the treatment process. The total treatment time is about 1-2 hours.
Afterward treatment, a thick layer of a petroleum-based ointment (Aquaphor) is applied to help with healing. Hydration is important to keep the treatment areas from drying and cracking. Sunscreen and avoidance of sun exposure is crucial to prevent scarring and discomfort in the post-treatment period. Swelling and peeling may occur for about 5 - 7 days. CO2RE laser treatment can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures.
