A medical laser is used to target the dark pigment of the body hair with a concentrated beam of light that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This light energy heats up the individual hair follicles, damaging them and interrupting their ability to grow hair.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Patients report that laser hair removal feels similar to the sting of a rubber band on the skin—irritating but not unbearable. The level of discomfort can vary from area to area; your underarms may be more sensitive to your legs, for instance.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

Because laser hair removal only effects hair follicles in their active growth stage, you will need to come in for multiple sessions to ensure a smooth result. Typically, four to six treatments are needed to effectively remove hair, though areas with sparse hair coverage may require fewer.

Am I good candidate for hair removal?

While laser technology has come a long way, the best candidates for laser hair removal typically have lighter skin and dark hair. Patients with darker skin may experience discoloration while those with very light hair may not see results.
