The Stats Are In: Breast Augmentation & BOTOX Remain Most Popular

Ever wondered just how many people are having cosmetic procedures done? The American Society of Plastic Surgeons wants to know too. Each year, the organization gathers stats from its member surgeons to identify plastic surgery trends across the United States. Here’s what they found for 2018:

  • Breast augmentation remains the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure. Over 313,000 breast augmentation procedures were performed in 2018, a number more than 50,000 higher than the second place procedure, liposuction. It’s unlikely that feminine curves will ever go out of style.

  • BOTOX® is light years ahead in the minimally-invasive category. More than 7.4 million botulinum toxin type A treatments (including BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin) were performed by ASPS surgeons in 2018. That’s one treatment for every 44 people in the United States! If you haven’t gotten BOTOX yet to smooth your frown lines or crow’s feet, chances are someone you talked to this week has.

  • Hair transplants are making a comeback. While numbers steadily declined over the last couple of decades, hair transplant procedures were up 18% last year. I suspect that the new, minimally invasive and more aesthetically pleasing options we have, namely NeoGraft®, are changing people’s minds for the better about hair transplants.
